It's a great question I think most people struggle with that for two reasons one they feel like they're a burden They feel like I'm gonna make this thing worse. I'm not qualified to sit with this person I'm not gonna have to sit with this person, and I think the second thing is is I don't know what to say It's tough, you know, like I'll get done from a 14 16 hour shift and I'll get home and there's nobody there to You say hi If you listen to my show for any two episodes in a row, you'll hear me say you're not a burden and you'll hear me Say just say nothing and show up when I started doing crisis work and showing up in the middle of night in wild situations I learned real quick that my Grad school answers don't mean Anything to a mother who just lost a child doesn't mean anything The more classes I went to the more words I had the more experience I got The less I talked and that's been a that's been a powerful thing. You've made it to where your whole life is an apology and At least in this interaction with me, bro. You don't have to apologize for anything. Okay? I'm really glad that you called For a lot of the callers that call into your show a lot of the answers seem to be connections and relationships What are the things you're hearing over and over again when it comes to people wanting to make those connections and build those relationships? But just not quite getting there like in-person relationships are awkward and they're hard We have an incredibly lonely generation and we're trying to solve it digitally and I'm just super bearish on Digital tools solving human connection issues I think we have to push back against that tide and say I'm gonna join the bowling league I'm gonna go back to a local church. I'm start going to concerts There's something really powerful about sitting here being here in this room and being here with these people I started having kind of a panic attack and After I was able to calm that down I was able to take inventory and I'm just I Just realized that I'm just all alone Getting to walk alongside folks Beneath the labels and just say hey, here's the situation. What are we gonna do next? It's sometimes just putting the awkward on the table as a shared common humanity. We've all got awkward I think the human thing is to put on the table. What's not human is this weird dancing around it that we've Started doing all of a sudden and it doesn't help people feel loved or safe or connected It just it allows you to bifurcate the world in who you all hate together.
