Police have confirmed the arrest of at least 45 pro-Palestinian protesters in the vicinity of the Yale University campus. The arrests took place amid a demonstration where Yale students called for the university to divest its funds from Israel, funds they claim are contributing to the conflict in Gaza.

The protest, which drew hundreds of Yale students, occurred outside Woolley Hall near the intersection of Grove Street and College Street. Participants, who have been gathering for several days, formed a circle early in the day and remained on site, engaging in chanting, music, and expressions of solidarity. The demonstration began with an encampment created by students at Bikinak Plaza outside Woolley Hall, coinciding with a Board of Trustees meeting at the university last Friday night.

Police intervened in the protest earlier today, moving to the area around the encampment to start making arrests. The New Haven Police, assisting the Yale Police Department, cited immediate orders for dispersal, though protesters claimed they received no prior warning. Students questioned the grounds for their arrest but reported not receiving clear responses from the officers present.

New Haven Police have stated that those arrested face charges of criminal trespassing, classified as a misdemeanor. The department's involvement came as part of a coordinated effort with Yale Police.

The protests continued throughout the weekend. This morning, police moved into the area of where that encampment happened and began to arrest protesters. New Haven police say at least 45 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested. Their department assisted the Yale Police Department. Cops genuinely just came in with no warning, immediately ordered us to disperse and claimed that anyone who was on the plaza, which again, were students at this university, this is our plaza. They said that if we were on the plaza, we would get arrested immediately. We tried asking cops what we were doing wrong. We tried asking them what we were going to be charged with. They refused to answer. New Haven police say that those arrested this morning are charged with criminal trespassing and that's a misdemeanor.
