For Hiba Salim and her children, life as a displaced family was already difficult. Now the cold winter rain has made it unbearable, flooding the single rooms where they shelter. That's after Israel forced them out of their home in the Janin refugee camp earlier this year. I have eight children and we all live in this room. The situation here is very difficult. Rainwater drips on us from the ceiling. We sleep wet and wake up wet because of the rainwater. Our life is very difficult. If one of my children gets sick, I don't know where to take them. And if I want something for my children to eat, I don't know where to get it. Across the occupied West Bank, displaced Palestinians are facing harsh winter conditions as well as rainwater leaking through roofs and walls, turning overcrowded shelters into unsafe, unlivable spaces. Finding enough food and getting basic services is a daily struggle. Children sleep in wet bedding while parents fear what the next downpour will bring. The weather here is very cold. Rainwater falls on us and makes the atmosphere even colder. The blankets that are supposed to keep us warm are often wet. Going to school is difficult also because I walk to school in this cold weather. With winter storms arriving, families are bracing for even more hardship and calls for humanitarian help are growing louder. Life and conditions here are extremely difficult.
