The Consumer Watchdog's annual report indicates that average domestic airfares have remained relatively stable, increasing by just 0.8% compared to the previous year, while jet fuel prices have dropped by over 12%.

Passenger numbers have returned to pre-pandemic levels, with a 2.3% increase in June compared to the same period last year. Despite this, seat capacity has not matched the rising demand, partly due to the exit of Tiger Air. Cancellation rates remain low, particularly for Virgin and Qantas, and new competition is expected with Koala Airlines planning to begin operations in 2026.

The travelling public have returned to the skies. We are seeing passenger numbers back at pre-pandemic levels. In June this year 2.3% more passengers flew than the same time last year.
