Doctors Without Borders has suspended its work in Gaza City because of the ongoing Israeli offensive. The Israeli military is pressed its offensive against Palestinian Islamist group Hamas there, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has announced the suspension of its medical operations in Gaza City, citing the rapidly worsening security situation caused by ongoing Israeli military actions. The organisation reports that airstrikes and advancing tanks have come dangerously close to their healthcare facilities, making it unsafe to continue their work.

Despite the suspension, MSF stated it will continue to support the Al Helou and Al Shifa hospitals as long as they remain operational. The conflict has resulted in extensive destruction of neighbourhoods and medical centres, with more than 1,500 health workers killed and the local health system nearing collapse. MSF clinics had provided thousands of consultations and treated hundreds for malnutrition in the previous week before the suspension.

Many have fled but hundreds of thousands of people are left in Gaza City, unable to leave and with no other choice but to stay. Israel's ongoing offensive in Gaza City has destroyed neighbourhoods as well as key facilities like this medical centre of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society. Health facilities have been targeted since the beginning of the conflict. Just ten days ago, we have lost our 13th colleague, Hussein, who's basically passed away of his injuries after an Israeli airstrike hit near his stunt. More than 1,500 health workers have been killed in this conflict, so they have been targeted, health facilities have been raided and as a result the health system is absolutely collapsing today. As ruins are bombed to dust, access to food, water and shelter is extremely limited and the last remaining medical clinics are completely overwhelmed. According to MSF, their clinics in Gaza City carried out over 3,600 consultations and treated 1,600 people with malnutrition in the last seven days alone. Although the organisation is suspending its activities in Gaza City, MSF says it will continue to provide support for the Al Helou and Al Shifa hospitals for as long as they continue to function.

UN sanctions are set to be reimposed on Iran on Saturday - after a failed bid by Russia and China to delay them. Only four countries voted in favour of the draft resolution.
