Recent polling reveals that the majority of Washington, D.C. residents do not support former President Donald Trump becoming more involved in local issues such as crime. According to data cited, 71 percent of D.C. residents believe Trump is already too involved, while only 11 percent want him to be more involved.

The polling also highlights that concern about crime in D.C. has decreased, with only 21 percent now citing it as the top problem, down from 36 percent in previous years. Despite about half of residents still viewing crime as a serious issue, this number has also declined. The report notes that Trump has historically performed poorly among D.C. voters, receiving only 6.5 percent of the vote in the area.

Do DC residents want Trump involved in local issues?

Do D.C. residents actually want Trump involved in local issues such as crime? No. No. I think that's the simple answer. The simple answer is no. You know, we can look at the polling from even before this move and we can see it here. D.C. residents on Trump and local D.C. issues, he's too involved, takes the cake. Look at this. Seventy-one percent, in fact, the majority of every single demographic that The Washington Post polled said that, in fact, Trump is too involved in D.C. local issues compared to get just this. Look at this. Just 11 percent, just 11 percent of D.C. residents want Trump more involved. They hate, hate, hate this idea of Trump getting involved more with local politics. And of course, this is all about crime, right? How do D.C. residents view crime? Well, I think this kind of gives the game away. D.C. residents on the top, top problem facing Washington, D.C., those who said crime, violence or guns. In 2022, it was 36 percent. Look at where it's fallen to now in 2025, a 15 point drop, 21 percent. And that, of course, follows the decline in crime rates. And I will point out that the about 50 percent of D.C. residents do, in fact, say that crime is extremely or very serious problem in Washington, D.C. But even that number is down from 65 percent just a year ago. So again, what we're seeing here is fewer and fewer Washington, D.C. residents saying that, in fact, crime is the top issue. Fewer and fewer D.C. residents saying that, in fact, it's an extremely or very important problem that they need to solve. Of course, Elena was talking about this, right, talking about the politics of this issue. And I think it's so important that we have to mention the politics of this issue. It's not just about policy. It's about politics. And what's another key reason that that Donald Trump might want to have a say in D.C. local politics and upset so many of those residents? Well, this may give the game away. Trump's worst performance out of the 3,000 plus counties in the United States are county equivalents. Guess where it was? It was in Washington, D.C. He got just 6.5 percent of the vote in Washington, D.C., north of 90 percent of Washington, D.C. voters went against Donald Trump. So to be honest with you, I don't think that Donald Trump gives a hoot what Washington, D.C. residents think about him, because he already knows they really, really hate him.
