DART's board of directors got an update from the transit agency CEO on Friday with an estimate of when operations will be back to normal.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is working to restore full rail service after a fire broke out on a train partially inside a tunnel under Ross Avenue at Central Expressway. The incident resulted in the evacuation of 40 passengers, with six transported to the hospital for minor burns, but no life-threatening injuries were reported. 

The disruption affected service to 10 stations, prompting DART to deploy bus shuttles for affected customers. Repairs to the power system and tunnel are underway, with teams working extended shifts and support from the National Transportation Safety Board. DART expects to resume full rail operations soon, following a period of hybrid service.

Clearly a lot of work having to be done now on that power system as well as inside the tunnel, stuff that we can't clearly see. Speaking of crisis after crisis, I want to begin by giving an update on the rail disruptions from a couple of days ago. DART CEO Nadine Lee opened the scheduled board workshop with an update to members and through the public meeting, all of us, about the serious situation Wednesday when fire broke out on a DART train. Trouble sparked flames on that train that was partially in the light rail tunnel underneath Ross Avenue at Central Expressway. 40 passengers on board when that incident ignited. Dallas Fire Rescue helped evacuate passengers, then give them medical attention. Six DART customers carried to the hospital, some with minor burns, but no life-threatening injuries. Operations faced two major disruptions on Wednesday, which impacted service to 10 stations. And our teams responded immediately, deploying bus shuttles to support our customers. Sky 4 could see the hard work Friday involving research, repair and recover. Research what went wrong, an investigation that brought a GO team from the National Transportation Safety Board to Dallas. Repair what's damaged in the rail system and the tunnel. And for the transit agency's ability to move people across downtown and the Central Business District through its rail line system on schedule. It's been an all-hands-on-deck effort. Our incredible operations, maintenance of way and maintenance teams, along with support across the agency, have worked tirelessly in 12 to 16-hour shifts to keep service moving and accelerate repairs. Thanks to their dedication, we plan to continue this hybrid service through Sunday, with full rail service expected to resume Monday morning. CEO Nadine Lee telling the board members that she is incredibly grateful for the hard work of DART employees during what she called, quote, this challenging time, hoping that by Monday, DART will deal with more traditional troubles and customary challenges.
