Senators are still debating how to classify cryptocurrencies, address their use in illegal activities, and determine the extent of regulation for decentralized finance.

Additional unresolved issues include whether government officials should profit from crypto ventures while in office and disputes between banks and crypto companies over interest-like rewards. The vote on the regulation bill, originally planned for the near future, is now delayed until at least 2026.

Well, yeah, look banking CEOs crypto groups They've been flooding Capitol Hill in recent weeks as senators are trying to come closer to an agreement on when to classify crypto as a Security and when to classify it as a commodity and how to prevent crypto for being used for legal activities yet Lawmakers I spoke to leaving a bipartisan meeting yesterday said there is still work to be done We're making progress But we're not it's clear to me anyway that we're not there yet That's that senator John Kennedy He's a member of the Banking Committee that initially hoped to mark up the bill this month But that has now been pushed back yet again Issues remained and a tentative vote on the bill that lawmakers hope to take this month could be going now until January Remaining issues include whether top government officials like President Trump and his family should be able to profit from crypto ventures While they are in office another ongoing debate is to what degree decentralized finance should be regulated and there's also a battle brewing between banks and Crypto over interest payments now stable coin issuers They are banned from paying interest to customers But they can pay rewards that look a lot like interest which banks argue is too similar
