A coroner has found that the fatal 2015 stabbing of Prabha Arun Kumar may have been a targeted killing ordered by her husband, ruling out sexual assault and attempted robbery.

Security footage has helped reconstruct her final movements, but the perpetrator remains unidentified. Detectives have ruled out robbery and sexual assault as motives, instead suspecting a targeted killing, with attention focused on her husband, Arun, who has not been charged but was found to have deleted communications and had an extramarital affair. Despite extensive searches, no murder weapon or significant evidence has been found. In memory of Prabha, a section of Parramatta Park has been renamed the Prabha Memorial Walk.

For Prabha Arun Kumar's sister, the journey to Australia was a painful but hopeful one to find her killer. We will continue to investigate this offence as long as it takes and as new evidence comes in. Prabha's final steps were this week extensively pieced together in security footage, but she disappears from view in Parramatta Park where she was violently stabbed in the neck in March 2015. In his findings today, Deputy State Coroner David O'Neill said I will refer the matter to the unsolved homicide squad. The investigation will continue. Attempted robbery and sexual assault have been ruled out. Detectives suspect a targeted killing and that her husband Arun may have arranged her murder. He had been having a three-year affair with another woman and deleted call records and WhatsApp messages. Without those records it makes it more difficult for investigators to establish where the truth lies. Arun made two statements to police in March 2015 and was interviewed that November. In February 2016 he gave a statement to Indian police and in January 2017 he was interviewed by NSW police detectives who travelled to India. He has not been charged. The attacker set upon Prabha and disappeared into the night and despite a police search of the ground, garbage bins, drains, creeks and the roofs of buildings, no murder weapon or other clues were found. Prabha was an honest and hard-working person with a gentle heart and a great love for her daughter. Jubilee Lane in Parramatta Park has since been renamed the Prabha Memorial Walk in her memory and the ongoing pursuit for justice. Sarah Navin, 10News.
