This new funding would add to the $22.5 million previously approved for the project, potentially pushing the total cost above initial estimates. 

Local sports bars and businesses have reported decreased sales due to the Tampa Bay Rays temporarily relocating their games, emphasizing the economic importance of the stadium's reopening. City officials remain optimistic that repairs will be completed in time for the next baseball season, while also discussing future revenue options for the site beyond the current contract with the Rays, which runs until 2028.

Happening today, ST Pete City Council members are set to vote on dumping more money into repairs at the trap. Now, this is something we've kept a close eye on since last fall when Hurricane Milton ripped the roof off of Tropicana Field. And back in April, City Council approved $22.5 million to begin repairs. And today they'll vote on more money. Let's bring in ABC Action is reporter Keely McCormick. She's been covering the repairs closely and joins us live from the trap. Keely. Good morning. Walk us through the latest. Hey, guys. Good morning to you. $16 million. That's the number on the table today, and that's how much is needed for the next round of repairs here at the Trump. But that number could push the price tag past the initial estimate. Behind the scenes, repairs are already underway to fix up Tropicana Field and get it back to Major League Baseball standards. But inside City Hall, City Council members are set to vote on more funding for the next round of repairs. We're right where we need to be. This is this is moving along just like it should be. City Councilman Copley Gerdes says, while the price tag maybe a bit more than originally anticipated, they are still on track, and he's hopeful the repairers will be done in time for opening day next year. That's something local sports bars tell me they're banking on. We miss baseball. We want baseball back. We can't wait for next April. Mark Ferguson owns Ferg Sports Bar and Grill and tells me baseball is their biggest moneymaker. But sales are down this summer with the team playing in Tampa. Down the street, Bill Giorgio from the Berg Bar and Grill tells me they're feeling the same pain between this year and years past is that we're not getting enough foot traffic. We're definitely feeling the economic impact of the Rays not being here this summer. They both tell me they need the team back in ST Pete because baseball is such a huge part of their business. I am definitely concerned with the Rays not being here. Yes, because it's just, you know, not enough foot traffic. Meanwhile, City Councilman Corey Givens Jr is looking ahead to the future at a revenue replacement for the Rays. He's introducing a new business item to City Council and tells ABC Action News there are several options to fill that site. This is all up for discussion during today's city council meeting that starts at nine a.m. Today and again, the current contract has the Rays playing here in ST Pete until 2028 reporting live in ST Pete.
