CBS News has learned the CDC's Atlanta campus is undergoing security reviews and managers had a virtual meeting with employees Saturday after Friday's shooting outside the agency headquarters.

Employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been instructed to work remotely after a shooting incident at the agency's Atlanta headquarters. The attack resulted in the death of DeKalb County police officer David Rose, who was responding to the scene. 

CDC leadership, according to a staff member, believes their office was the intended target of the shooting. While no CDC employees were injured, the facility sustained significant damage. Investigators have not yet determined a motive, but are considering whether the shooter was motivated by concerns related to the COVID vaccine.

Reed, CBS News has learned the CDC is undergoing security reviews as leaders met with employees virtually on Saturday, just hours after gunfire erupted here at the headquarters on Friday. You can still see more than 20 bullet holes in the windows here at the headquarters. Also, a staffer who was on the call tells CBS News, CDC leadership said they believe their office was the intended target of the shooting. None of its employees was injured, but DeKalb County police officer David Rose was killed while responding to the shooting. Tonight, we're getting a look at the 33-year-old's graduation speech from the police academy in March. He was the class leader. We learned that policing isn't just about enforcing the law. It's about protecting the vulnerable, standing for justice, and being the person who runs towards danger. Police have not yet discovered a motive, but sources tell CBS News that investigators are looking into a theory that the shooter was either sick or believed he was sick because of the COVID vaccine.
