A new CBS News poll finds that Americans are increasingly voicing concern about the shutdown's impact on the U.S. economy, as a big majority feel Congress isn't even working to try to end it.

A recent CBS poll reveals that a majority of Americans are increasingly worried about the effects of the government shutdown on the U.S. economy. The poll also shows that concerns about personal financial impact are rising, with many Americans already rating the economy poorly.

The survey highlights that Republicans perceive prices as high and expect them to rise further. Politically, there is growing negativity and disapproval toward President Trump, congressional Republicans, and Democrats regarding their handling of the shutdown. Nearly three-quarters of respondents believe Congress is not working effectively to resolve the situation.

Increasing concern among Americans about the shutdown's impact on the U.S. economy. In fact, the number who are very concerned about that is now up to a majority, a lot of concern out there. The other part of this is the potential impact on Americans personally. We see an increase there as well, including Americans who are very concerned about that. Now, they're already sensitive about this because ratings for the economy are low, have been low. Republicans tell us in the poll they perceive prices as high, and they think those prices are going to get higher. So the way that this plays out is politically nobody here is winning. You've got increasing negativity, disapproval of how they're handling the shutdown for President Trump, congressional Republicans, and congressional Democrats. That's the political side of this, and nearly three-quarters of Americans tell us they don't think Congress is working and negotiating to try to end the shutdown.
