Two Hong Kong airport security staff were killed early on Monday (October 20) after a cargo plane from Dubai skidded off the runway on landing, and pushed their vehicle into the sea.

A Boeing 747 cargo plane operating on behalf of Emirates skidded off the runway at Hong Kong airport, striking a patrol car and pushing it into the sea. Two airport security workers in the vehicle were rescued from the water but later died, one at the scene and the other in hospital. 

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, considering factors such as weather, runway conditions, the aircraft, and the crew. The incident did not disrupt other flights at the airport. All four crew members on board the cargo plane escaped unharmed, and no cargo was being transported at the time. This marks the deadliest airport accident in Hong Kong since 1999.

He added that authorities are investigating the cause, looking at weather, runway conditions, the aircraft, and the crew. Yu also said flights at Hong Kong's airport have not been affected. Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, said the crash at the world's busiest cargo airport involved an ACT Airlines plane operating on its behalf. There was no cargo on board. All four crew members of the plane escaped safely. This was Hong Kong's deadliest airport accident since the 1999 China Airlines crash that killed three people. Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
