The call follows the exclusion of Maurice Camto, a prominent opposition leader and main challenger to President Paul Biya, from participating in the upcoming presidential vote. Authorities have also banned electoral gatherings and imposed restrictions on opposition parties, leading to protests and concerns about the fairness of the process.

The UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights highlighted additional issues, including reports of irregularities in voter registration and the interruption of a live television interview with a political figure by security forces. President Biya, aged 92, recently confirmed his intention to seek an eighth term in office. The presidential election is scheduled to take place in Cameroon soon.

Recently a live television interview with a political figure was interrupted by security forces. 92-year-old Beer announced in July that he would seek re-election, ending speculation that he might step aside. The Central African country votes on October 12.
