California State Parks has been awarded more than $2.6 million in arts grants as part of the Arts in California Parks pilot program. The funding aims to revitalize local parks through diverse community arts events, including dance, theater, and cultural celebrations.

In San Diego County, four organizations will receive grants to implement creative programs in local parks. The initiative is part of a statewide effort to increase park engagement and support community-driven arts projects.

Well in other news, San Diego's parks could soon become more than just a green space. ABC 10 News reporter Olivia Gonzalez-Britt shows us how a pilot state program will bring more community events to your local parks here in San Diego. The government may be shut down and hundreds of projects may have lost grant funding across the country. But California State Parks has not been left in the dark and they recently secured millions of dollars in California arts grants. And here's how they'll be used in San Diego. Around San Diego you'll find over 400 local parks. A lot of times they're empty. And while other times they're packed with people, California State Parks wants to bring change with a new round of community arts grants aimed at bringing people back to these spaces. The idea of this grant program is that we're meeting people where they are. So these parks could be down the street from your house and it doesn't have to be a long trip into a state park. This is year two of the Arts in California Parks pilot program, a statewide effort to revitalize parks through art, dance, theater, and cultural celebration. Those grantees, we also try to make sure that we have diverse art programs as well. So these programs, like I said, could be dance, it could be theater, murals, there's all types of different arts represented as well. And so we really try to have this statewide approach and leave it open to see what the communities want to propose for these types of programs. Last year they received more than $2.6 million to support 31 projects. And this upcoming year, grantees include four right here in San Diego County. Fern Street Community Arts, Mesa Grande Housing Authority, New Village Arts, and the Mid-City Community Advocacy Network will be all receiving funds to bring creative programs and events to local parks. For those who are interested in applying, I would say to start, you know, researching the website, looking at the website, seeing if you're a good fit for this program. With the state's continued investment, those empty parks may soon be buzzing with a new kind of energy. For ABC 10 News, I'm Olivia Gonzales-Britt.
