California is dealing with the aftermath of several days of severe weather, including heavy rain, flooding, and damaging winds. In Ventura, a man was rescued from a rapidly rising river, while residents in Wrightwood returned to mud-covered homes. San Francisco and Oakland experienced wind gusts above 70 miles per hour, causing trees to fall on homes and power lines.

Meanwhile, the northeastern United States is facing a major snowstorm, with ice storm warnings in west central Pennsylvania and winter storm warnings for New York City. The storm is expected to cause hazardous travel and flight delays from Philadelphia to Baltimore, with snow and dangerous conditions continuing through the night.

Parts of California are still reeling from days of heavy wind and rain. You can see here one man being rescued from the Ventura River northwest of Los Angeles after it rose seven feet last night in just five hours. In the community of Wrightwood, locals were allowed to return to homes still caked in mud after severe flooding. While in San Francisco and Oakland, violent winds gusting above 70 miles per hour sent trees crashing onto homes and power lines. Now we're also looking at snow and ice in the northeast, so let's go to meteorologist Tony Sadiku from CBS News New York. Good morning, Michael. We got active weather on both coasts. We'll start in the west where finally some better news. Activity starting to wind down, but we still have flood watches for one more day. Moderate to heavy rain could still cause issues, especially waterlogged parts of the higher terrain just north of LA. Meanwhile, snow continued to fall in the Sierra. Also watching the snow event, a post-Christmas snowstorm moving through the Great Lakes all the way to the northeast. Ice storm warnings for parts of west central Pennsylvania. Gonna be a messy drive along I-80. Winter storm warnings for New York City, which could accumulate to the biggest snow the city has seen in nearly four years. Watch as it rolls on through. Again, messy travel. Could be a mix from Philly to Baltimore. Accumulating snow will mean reduced visibility, rough conditions as well as flight delays right through the overnight hours before this starts to wind down overnight. Back to you.
