CNN World Sport’s Amanda Davies sits down with Arsenal’s Spanish midfielder Mariona Caldentey to look back at an extremely successful first season with the Gunners and discuss goals for the new campaign.

She stressed the importance of consistency, defensive solidity, and starting the season strongly. Caldentey also expressed her personal goal of winning the WSL and other domestic trophies with Arsenal.

Mariona, it's wonderful to speak to you. Congratulations on the latest award, the PFA Player of the Year. Have you built a bigger trophy cabinet? No, not yet. I mean, it has been a good year. It was a challenge for me, and I think it was positive even before we won the Champions League. And then, of course, if you add winning a big trophy as Champions League and get recognised individually as well, I think it was just a great season. When you say it was a challenge for you... I was 10 years in the same club, playing with the same teammates in the club, in the national team. I was so used to one way to play football and just going abroad and new language, new culture, new teammates, new idea of football, new league. I think that's a big challenge. And for so many years at Barcelona, you have been playing with the others who have been winning the accolades, the trophies, the likes of Alexia Puteas, Aitana Bonmati. What do you think it is about this move? Has it changed something in you or unlocked another level? Yeah, I mean, I think they are great, great players and they deserve all the trophies they are winning. But I think in the individual perspective, it is something different for me here. I think I am a bit more in the sport and I think people are speaking more about me. And maybe now they can know me better as a player. Do you enjoy the spotlight? Do you embrace it? It's not my favourite thing to do, but it's a good sign. I mean, I'm happy, of course, that the things are going great for me. And I try to enjoy it as well, because that might be once in life. So I try to enjoy it. I think it's another part of the football. Do you have to mentally prepare more for performances on the pitch or for the red carpet and the interviews? For sure, with the interviews on the red carpet, I think the football pitch is more natural for me. And one of the things that we have seen from you is how amazingly human you are and your relationships from a Barcelona standpoint, an Arsenal standpoint, an England standpoint, a Spain perspective. How do you do that? Yeah, it's hard, but I think it's part, again, of our work. And when we are on the pitch, we have no friends. But as soon as the game is done, I have so much respect for the Champions League, for the Barça girls, of course, and the staff and everyone. And then when I was on the other side, even if I'm only here for one year, I feel so grateful for how the English players helped me. So I have so much respect for them as well. We are becoming friends. We spent a lot of time together. And I think one thing is everyone wants to win. So then we are not friends. But once that's done, then I I just want to be respectful. And what has been the discussion here with Arsenal heading into the new season? It's a big season. It's a big season, I think. We know what we want. And let's just try to fight for all the trophies we can. I think we need to be a bit more consistent. I think last season was a bit of a roller coaster and ups and downs. But I think winning the Champions League was something amazing for the club. And I hope that gives us more confidence. Yeah, I mean, I want to win all the trophies, of course. Like that's the team sport and that's our goal. And then when the things go well, then the other things come for individual as well. But I mean, I would love to win the WSL. That's something that we really have in our head. And then, of course, the Cubs. I'm quite new here, so I haven't won any of that trophy. So that's what's on my head right now. And what is the key? Without giving too many secrets away, what are you talking about as a group of players to break that Chelsea dominance in terms of the WSL, the league? Well, Chelsea has been amazing the last year because it's not that easy to be that consistent. And I think what we want now is to start strong this season. We want to have clean sheets. We want to be a solid team defensively because then we know we have talent and a lot of goals in front. So, yeah, it's a bit about that consistent moment that we want to keep.
