Australia's top order struggled early, and despite a brief recovery from Michael Neeser, the team was dismissed cheaply. England then lost key wickets in rapid succession, with Scott Boland and Neeser making crucial breakthroughs, leaving both teams in a precarious position at the end of the day's play.

Michael Neeser offered some relief for the home side after narrowly avoiding a walk back to the pavilion, he smashed three fours in a row, but the end came quickly. Cam Green misjudged a single. Stark skied one, Neeser was knocked over for 35 and Boland lasted one ball. Josh Tung claiming five wickets, Australia all out for 152. But as has so often been the case this series, the palms blew their advantage. Duckett gone for five, Bethel for one and Crawley joining him soon after. The Barmy Army in a state of shock as Root went for a duck. Harry Brook let off some frustration. Putting 41 on the board before Scott Boland went bang.
