When asked more broadly about allegations of excessive force, Homan said he hasn't seen any examples of it under President Trump so far.

He maintained that Temporary Protected Status is rarely temporary in practice and declined to comment further due to ongoing litigation.

The big questions, was the agent hit by the car or not? Was the use of lethal force justified or not? These are the questions Americans are asking tonight. And just moments ago, we showed Border Czar Tom Homan a video of today's shooting in Minneapolis because we also wanted to know, what does he see when he watches it? He wouldn't comment, citing the investigation, but the Department of Homeland Security has already had a whole lot to say. Here's Homan. I think the city of Minneapolis is on edge. I think the country is on edge right now. You say the investigation is ongoing. Investigation just started. Just started. You say you can't comment on the video, which many Americans are seeing and reacting to. I'm not gonna make a judgment call on one video when there's a hundred videos out there. I'm not, I wasn't on the scene. I'm not an officer that may have body cam video. It'd be unprofessional to comment on what I think happened in that situation. Let the investigation play out and hold people accountable based on the investigation. I think many members of the public are calling for the same thing, and so they're confused. Maybe you can help me understand how the Department of Homeland Security could conclude so swiftly that this is a, quote, active domestic terrorism, that this woman, quote, weaponized her vehicle. By the very same standard you described, this investigation is just getting started. That's the question for Homeland Security. And the borders are. Well, I can't tell you what I've seen on my airplane ride here, looking at numerous videos, seeing numerous social media posts, statements from Homeland Security, statements from Secretary Nulm. I'll leave it at that. But as a law enforcement officer. What good is it to do right now, to me, prejudge the facts of what happened today without giving law enforcement professionals, whether it's the FBI or the local police there, give them time to look at all the videos, talk to all the witnesses, talk to the officers, and make an educated decision on what occurred today? That's what needs to happen. I've been a cop since 1984. That is a process we must go through. These videos that for months and months have been going around that people watch and they share and they say, look at this case of excessive force. Again, I'm not gonna litigate any particular incident or ask you in detail about it. But I'm curious. You've seen these videos. I'm sure you've seen more than is even public. Have you seen any examples of clear excessive force displayed by ICE agents and officers in the field? No. During the whole administration? Things that I've seen? Yeah. No. And when I hear a thing, I see a story that an allegation is made, I follow up, make sure that it's being fully investigated. But I haven't seen one ICE officer found guilty of anything inappropriate. Again, I'm not involved in every arrest. I reckon thousands of arrests a day, over 2,000 a day on average. I can't be aware of every ICE arrest. I trust the men and women of ICE and the border patrol are well-trained. They get Fourth Amendment training every six months. I'm putting my faith in them that they do the right thing every day out there. And if they don't, they'll be held accountable. I wanna ask you a kind of a bold question here. I mean, just a straight up question. You're telling me you've never seen in your tenure any example of excessive force. You're telling me you've not heard any comment from any member of this administration that is inflammatory or racist or in any way demeaning toward the immigrant community. That's what you're telling me. I know, because I've talked to people out there all over the country, a lot of Americans are gonna hear that and they're going to be yelling at their television. They're gonna be saying, the idea that it's zero, there's nothing there there. You're calling them crazy. I'm not calling anybody crazy. I'm telling you what I know, what I've seen. And I told you, there are over 2,000 arrests a day. I can't see every arrest. But it just comes down to zero issues, zero problems, zero comments. It's just not believable to a lot of people, including myself. There's nothing that you would have ICE do differently in any of these cases. We've seen all of these videos, nothing. I have not seen ICE act out outside of policy. And if they are acting outside of policy, I'm not aware of it, there'll be an investigation that'll be held accountable. One final question on Venezuela. Clearly, the Maduro regime was dangerous in the eyes of the U.S. government. We just launched a raid to remove him. At the very same time, the administration has removed protections for Venezuelans here who fled that danger. How does that make sense? Well, I guess, you know, the Secretary of Homeland Security and the State Department works very closely on that. But I'll say this. Temporary protective status. I've been doing this since 1984. I don't think I've ever seen TPS be temporary. Gets extended, gets extended. The law clearly says, when the conditions of the country change, then that TPS should end. So that's in litigation right now, so I'm not gonna comment on ongoing litigation. But we look back over all the TPS programs in the last 40 years, and look how many were actually temporary.
