The Bondi community came together at sunrise for a vigil honoring those lost and injured in a recent attack. The gathering included prayers, tributes to victims and heroes, and expressions of solidarity from residents, Olympians, and faith leaders.

Notable attendees included Federal Labor Minister Tanya Plibersek, Australia's Greek Orthodox Archbishop, and several Olympians. The event emphasized unity and support as the community begins its recovery, with participants pledging to rebuild and restore Bondi.

A show of strength from a community that suffered so much. This morning, their message was loud and clear. Bondi won't be broken. We will build a better Bondi, a better Australia, and a better world. Bondi will be better than ever. They're a happy place, and it's really important that we get that back. In a swell of support as the sun rose, the crowd floated side by side, remembering the lives that were taken by the famous Shores and the 15 people still battling injuries in hospital. The whole experience, it's brought so much sorrow and grief to our community, but it's amazing how the community has responded. Paddle out this morning. That was beautiful. Such a sense of community, it was just wonderful. Yeah, my heart swelled, it was beautiful. Prayers were read out in the park while there were tears in the crowd as speakers shared stories of heroism. We forever remember Boris and Sophia German's unbelievable bravery. They were the first two victims I found together holding each other. Bondi nurse, Caitlin Davidson, was off duty on Sunday, but rushed to help the victims, including Reuben Morrison, the grandfather who took on the gunmen. After many attempts of advanced life-saving care, I watched Reuben take his last breath. He is forever a hero, and may he never be forgotten for his fearless acts. Five days on, emotions were still raw for many. Australia's Olympians among those who added to the ever-growing vigil, including the Fox sisters, who were both of Jewish faith. Yeah, it's been devastating and heartbreaking, but at the same time, really beautiful to be here. Ian Thorpe was there in support of runner and Jewish Olympian, Steve Solomon. It's important to be here for that, to support him, but also for myself as a Sydney-sider, someone who lives in this area, to show people that this impacts everyone in Australia, and that an attack like this is actually an attack on all of us. It was a sentiment shared across faiths. Federal Labor Minister, Tanya Plibersek, accompanied Australia's Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church as he paid his respects. We feel comforted by having that support and seeing that we're not alone. A long road to recovery for a community that's forever changed, but today felt one step closer back to the Bondi locals know and love. Hannah Stewart, 10 News.
