The boat, carrying Australian tourists on a snorkelling trip, was overwhelmed by two large waves, causing it to capsize. The incident occurred during inclement weather conditions, with heavy rain and strong currents cited as contributory factors.

The deceased, identified as Anna-Marie from Canberra, was among the 13 passengers aboard the Sea Dragon 2. Queensland residents Gabriel Hichnikoff and Tam Warrington sustained serious injuries and remain in critical condition. Efforts are currently underway by their families to facilitate a medical transfer to Brisbane for further treatment. Tam Warrington's condition prevents her from speaking due to the pain.

The accident has brought to light the risks associated with boat trips in the region, yet back at Suna Beach, tourists appeared undeterred by the earlier tragedy. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist in covering the costs of the medical transfer for the injured pair. Despite the calm conditions at Suna Beach, the memory of the accident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers of maritime excursions.

It was raining on that spot, big strong current. The situation on the day was very bad weather, the captain of another boat described. Critically burnt it would be hours before Tam Warrington could be transferred, then treated at hospital. From her and her partner Gabriel's family. Tam is unable to speak due to the pain and her condition remains critical. Gabriel too has sustained significant injuries. Their parents and siblings are now scrambling to organise a medical transfer back to Brisbane. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with the costs of bringing the pair home. Back at Suna Beach today it was calm and the tourists seemed undeterred. They are prepared to once again venture out on the waters that have so quickly turned the trip of a lifetime into tragedy.
