The Pacific Northwest is preparing for an atmospheric river event that is expected to bring substantial rainfall and gusty winds to the region. Recent storms have already increased snowpack in the mountains, but the upcoming system will primarily be a rain event, with snow limited to the highest elevations.

The heaviest rainfall is forecast for the west-facing slopes of the coastal and Cascade ranges, where totals could reach 2 to 4 inches. More populated areas along the I-5 corridor may see 1 to 2 inches of rain. The event carries a risk of flash flooding and may impact travel and outdoor activities.

Meanwhile, in the northwest, there will eventually be an atmospheric river, but we're kind of wrapping up the most recent storm where there's been some snow in the mountains. We're adding on to that snow pack, getting closer to ski season snow depth, getting well over a foot for some of our higher elevations. We get a break, though, in between storms. Yeah, we're gonna get a nice quiet day for Tuesday and warmer, drier weather into the Rockies. Some have been out with a snowmobile in parts of Colorado over the weekend. We have footage of that, but overall showers will be returning to areas north of Seattle into Tuesday evening. That's all ahead of our atmospheric river. That's really Thursday through Saturday is at least the beginning of this event, and snow is gonna remain at very high elevations to the point. We don't even have blue on the map here. It really is a rain event, bringing a risk of flash flooding, gusty winds and significant rainfall. 2 to 4 inches of rain for the west facing slopes of the coastal and cascade ranges with 1 to 2 inches of the more populated I five in between.
