A fire broke out in a residential complex on Kwong Wang Street, Tai Po, Hong Kong, engulfing multiple high-rise buildings and resulting in at least four confirmed deaths, including a firefighter. The complex consists of eight 31-storey buildings housing over 4,000 people, and the fire has been burning for several hours with its severity increasing.

Authorities report that several residents remain missing or unaccounted for, and a number of people are in critical condition. The fire is believed to have spread along bamboo scaffolding used for renovations, and large crowds have gathered at the scene as emergency services continue their efforts.

Well, Urs, this fire has now been burning for several hours. And if we bring you straight to these pictures just into the newsroom, you can see it only seems to be getting worse. I can tell you this is a complex in the middle of town there. It's made up of eight 31-storey buildings, home to more than 4,000 people. And tonight, it's not yet clear just how many of them are missing in these flames. It's been burning, as I say, for a number of hours. And at the base of this building is really a large crowd of onlookers starting to form. I was just reading a story. One man there was saying that he believes his wife is inside. He hasn't been able to confirm if she's missing, if she's not. That is a story being repeated by many people in Hong Kong tonight. Now, I can tell you that this fire is believed to have travelled along the outside of the building, up bamboo scaffolding, which has been brought in as part of an effort to renovate the building. Now, Urs, as we go to air tonight, at least four people are confirmed dead. Several others are critical. Of course, these pictures, they bring back those awful memories of the Grenfell Tower disaster in London in 2017. 72 people died there. Only time will tell how serious this incident will be.
