Home warranties promise peace of mind from major repairs.  But when one woman needed a major AC repair, she learned the downside of her pricey warranty.

Home warranties are marketed as a safeguard against costly home repairs, but some consumers are finding that exclusions and payout limits can significantly reduce their value. In one case, a homeowner in Cincinnati was left with nearly $4,000 in out-of-pocket expenses for a central air conditioning repair, despite paying $700 annually for a home warranty. Much of the repair, including a substantial amount for coolant, was not covered by the warranty.

Consumer advocates highlight that many home warranty contracts contain fine print exclusions and payout caps, which can make it difficult for homeowners to receive the coverage they expect. Additionally, warranty holders are often required to use company-approved technicians, who may lack experience, and the companies typically assume no liability if repairs are mishandled. As a result, some experts recommend that homeowners consider saving money for repairs rather than relying on warranty plans.

With the cost of home repair so high these days, a lot of people have been buying home warranties for protection. He says the biggest problem with these plans is that you have to pay for a service call and you're required to use their technicians who may be inexperienced. If they instead of fixing your furnace, break it for good and this happens, the home warranty companies assume no liability for that problem. Monique is now hiring her own company to make the repairs and has decided to drop the warranty. I would just encourage everyone to just save their own money.
