A significant Arctic blast is expected to push cold air east of the Rockies, causing temperatures to feel below freezing across much of the northern United States. The coldest conditions are forecast for the weekend, with Sunday expected to be colder than Saturday in many areas, and some locations seeing continued cold into Monday.

In cities like Chicago, wind chills may reach levels where frostbite can occur on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. Forecasters warn that some record cold highs, dating back to the 1910s, could be broken during this event, and urge people to cover exposed skin if spending time outdoors.

If you're east of the Rockies, you're gonna be feeling this cold air seeping all the way down in, and that means temperatures will be feeling like you're below freezing in a lot of these areas across the northern tier. So by Saturday, even into Sunday, colder and colder air continues to pile down, which means Sunday will be colder than Saturday, and for some of you, same thing on Monday. So for us in Chicago, you look at Sunday morning timeframe, and anybody thinking like, I'm gonna go tailgate to the football game, it's gonna be bitterly cold. I mean, we're talking about frostbite timeframe, very minimal, 30 minutes or less with exposed skin. So you really gotta cover everything up if you're gonna be out and about. And again, just looking at some of those record cold highs, Lynette, we could be breaking records for it being too cold. Some of these records going all the way back to the teens.
