The Prime Minister has begun his nearly week-long trip to China talking up Australian tourism and sport. However his visit has been overshadowed by the White House, grilled over his position on Taiwan.

The campaign comes as Chinese tourism to Australia continues to grow, with significant economic contributions from visitors.

However, the visit has also been marked by geopolitical tensions, as questions about Australia's position on Taiwan have arisen. The United States has sought clarification on Australia's stance should conflict occur over Taiwan, highlighting the complex dynamics between Australia, China, and the US. Albanese has emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region.
