The leaders also attended a progressive political conference with the prime ministers of Canada and Iceland, focusing on strategies to counter the rise of far-right populist parties. Albanese emphasized the importance of Australia's relationship with the UK in the current global climate and confirmed meetings with both Labour and Conservative leaders, but not with Nigel Farage.

So this was a chance for Anthony Albanese and Keir Starmer to talk about it face to face. I share notes about private conversations. I have always been confident about AUKUS going ahead. Earlier today, the Prime Ministers were at a progressive political conference, along with the Prime Ministers of Canada and Iceland. The four centre-left leaders bandied together to discuss countering the rise of far-right populist parties they say play grievance politics. I don't want to see the rise of populist organisations. That's what the UK Prime Minister is facing. He insists his Labor government's main opponent is now Nigel Farage's Reform Party. The choice before the electorate here at the next election is not going to be the traditional Labor versus Conservative. Centre-right parties in many European countries have withered on the vine and the same is happening in this country. Despite this, Anthony Albanese met with the Conservative party leader and insists he'll leave it at that. I have no plans to meet Mr Farage. A big part of why the Prime Minister is here is to navigate Australia's place in the new world order after President Trump turned it all on its head. And it's made our country's relationship with the UK more important than it's been in decades. The Prime Minister returned to Number 10 with his fiancée Jodie Hayden later in the evening.
