The controversy came to a head Tuesday morning when Trump called Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to complain. The company quickly clarified saying it was never a serious plan. Jeff Bezos was very nice, he was terrific, he solved the problem very quickly, and he did the right thing. But the debate over tariffs remains. Americans may soon feel the impact of the U.S.'s 145% tariff on Chinese exports. Chinese retailer Timu is now displaying import charges at checkout, sometimes doubling a product's price. Trump's reckless tariffs are going to make high price of groceries, gas, housing, utilities, clothing, electronics, and other essential goods even worse. Meanwhile, the White House is offering some relief to automakers amid concerns the tariffs will raise prices and threaten jobs.
