Industry representatives have expressed concerns that the financial support is insufficient, estimating it amounts to only about $500 per fisherman. Experts warn that the environmental impact may persist for years, affecting fish larvae, eggs, and production. Water testing is ongoing at multiple sites, and locals are being advised to avoid discoloured water and keep pets away from the shoreline.

A new front in the fight against the toxic bloom choking the state's marine life, with confirmation the Carina mickey moito algae has taken hold at Port Adelaide. Has appeared in the Port River and is at reasonably high concentrations around Garden Island and Outer Harbour. With the environmental disaster showing no signs of disappearing, the state's fishing industry's been brought to its knees. The devastation to the commercial sector is absolutely unreal. And after three months the government is finally offering some relief. Those who haven't been able to fish or have been out fishing incurring costs but not catching anything will be able to have their fees waived. But with a total of just $500,000 on offer, there's fears it'll be too little too late for fishers left reeling since March. Really disappointing on hearing from a fisher that they've worked out it's only about $500 per fisherman that they're actually going to be supporting them. For the next five to six years it'll have an effect on larvaes and eggs and production. So like I said we haven't seen the worst of this disaster yet. It's still unclear whether a mysterious red algae that's appeared off Fleurieu Peninsula will help turn the tide on the environmental disaster. Water testing is currently underway at 17 sites including here along the Port River. Locals are being warned to steer clear of discoloured water and keep pets away from the shoreline.
