It's one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, so the timing of all this is not great, but Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said airlines are making progress. Airbus also says this is not a long-term problem, and it should be a relatively easy fix. In fact, this afternoon, Delta and United both say there are zero impacts to operations, and American Airlines told us only four of their planes are down. If you're traveling this week, remember this, that grounding an aircraft to apply a fix isn't a sign that there's something wrong. It is a sign that the system is protecting you. When a JetBlue flight suddenly dropped midair on October 30th, the pilot could tell right away that this was not just your normal turbulence. The drop in altitude forced an emergency landing, and it was so rough, 15 passengers had to go to the hospital. So to avoid this, Airbus says some planes are gonna need a software upgrade, and the FAA is putting a tight deadline on airlines, telling them they got to get this done by midnight tonight.
