International leaders have stated that this assistance is insufficient to prevent the risk of famine in the region. The World Health Organization has reported that many Gazans are experiencing starvation, with particularly severe cases among children.

Israel's military has issued one of its largest evacuation orders in months, instructing families to leave areas around the city of Khan Younis in anticipation of an assault on Hamas. Residents report that they feel trapped by the ongoing conflict and are seeking safe passage out of the region. 

Israel's prime minister has acknowledged that the decision to allow some aid into Gaza was influenced by political pressure, stating that only a basic amount of food would be permitted. The leaders of Canada, the United Kingdom, and France have described the current level of aid as "wholly inadequate" and have called for an immediate increase in humanitarian assistance and a halt to military operations.

Aid agencies have warned that Gaza is nearing famine, a situation exacerbated by ongoing hostilities. Reports indicate that tens of thousands of people have died during the conflict, and many more are facing severe malnutrition and lack of resources.

Israel's prime minister says he's only doing that because of mounting political pressure. We can't allow a state of starvation from both a practical and diplomatic standpoint, he said. Benjamin Netanyahu said only a basic amount of food would be let in. And in a statement, the leaders of Canada, the UK and France called that wholly inadequate. We call on the Israeli government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter. The World Health Organization says Gazans are starving. The most extreme cases are among the most fragile. Maya El Arja is nearly two years old and weighs just six and a half kilograms. Her mother told a videographer working for CBC News that she suffers from malnutrition and diarrhea. Her life was normal. She used to walk, play, laugh, she said. Now all she does is sleep. Aid groups have been warning for weeks that Gaza is on the brink of famine. Already tens of thousands have been killed in a year and a half of fighting. As Israel pushes in to try and defeat Hamas, all Gazans remain caught up in an intensifying war. Briar Stewart, CBC News, London.
