Hurricane Beryl made landfall in southeast Texas as a Category One hurricane, resulting in significant damage and leaving more than a million customers without power. The storm has been linked to at least seven deaths, adding to the challenges faced by local officials in their recovery efforts. 

The lack of electricity has hampered the recovery process, with residents dealing with extreme heat while waiting for power restoration. Many families are hosting relatives in homes with generators as they search for ways to stay cool.

The primary utility provider, Centerpoint Energy, has faced criticism for the prolonged outages. Local officials and residents have expressed frustration over the slow progress in restoring power. Centerpoint has stated that outages could extend into the coming days without providing a firm timeline for full restoration.

It's been four days since barrels slammed into southeast Texas as a category one hurricane and the power is still out for more than a million customers. The storm caused extensive damage and at least seven deaths but the recovery effort is being hampered by the lack of electricity in many areas and local officials say there's no telling when full service will be restored. This is going to be a multiple day recovery and we expect Centerpoint or Energy or any co-op to work just as hard as we do at the state level. Now frustration is mounting throughout the area with folks sweating it out in feels like triple-digit temperatures as a major heat wave lingers over much of the country. Thousands here in Houston are scrambling to find places to cool off with many hosting family and friends until the lights come back on. My sister she has a three-year-old and a ten-year-old so they're also coming over to our house trying to get from that generator because they also have no light so everybody's cramped up in our house trying to make it work. Much of the anger is being directed at Centerpoint Energy which supplies much of the electricity to the Houston area. Local officials are asking why it's taking so long to restore service while some residents say they're reaching a breaking point. I'm about to lose all the energy that I have trying to survive.
