The Aurora Police Department has launched an internal investigation after 30 boxes of investigation material were found under the floorboards of a retired detective's home.

A retired Aurora police detective is under investigation after authorities found 30 boxes of case materials, including reports, photos, and videotapes, stored in the crawl space of his home. The detective, who served for 41 years and retired in 2022, is not believed to have acted maliciously, and the police chief indicated there is no evidence that any criminal cases or individuals were impacted by the storage of these materials. The local district attorney is currently investigating the matter to determine if any further action is necessary.

Investigators say they found 30 boxes that included reports and photos, videotapes. The chief doesn't believe this was done maliciously and says he doesn't think criminal cases were impacted. There is no information at this point that there is anybody that was tried, anybody that was held accountable, any case or any victim, any suspects that were impacted in any way by any of the material that was located in that retired detective's home. And the local DA now is investigating.
