Fire officials described the odor as 'obnoxious' and conducted a thorough search of the school to identify its source, but were unable to determine what caused the smell. Parents were relieved as they picked up their children, and authorities continue to investigate the incident.

It's not necessarily obnoxious the way that we know, like our obnoxious brother or sister. It's not necessarily that something obnoxious is something that's gonna cause a particular effect on the person. And the effect was strong as 15 people were treated with one adult and one child hospitalized. Shanley says the odor was first detected in a classroom. Hazmat personnel with the fire department, along with other first responders going through each room of the school trying to find the source, something that eluded them for the moment. Many times we're not able to find out exactly what it is, but we can tell what it's not. And so and sometimes that's good enough for us. For parents like Rosalie, she's relieved her son is all right.
