The congressman has called for Hegseth’s resignation, questioning how the Defense Secretary can maintain his position amidst the ongoing scandal. 

Within the broader scope of the U.S. government's stability, Congressman Gottheimer discussed the financial markets in response to President Trump's shift in trade policy with China. The market surge followed Trump's indication that he may de-escalate the trade war. Despite this potential policy change, Gottheimer voiced concerns about the administration's lack of strategy and consistency, which he fears contributes to market chaos and economic uncertainty.

Gottheimer also touched on President Trump's relationship with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Trump recently stated he has no intention of firing Powell, although there are concerns about possible threats to the Federal Reserve's independence. Gottheimer commends Powell for maintaining his stance but remains worried about the broader impact of the administration's frequent attacks on independent institutions, believing it undermines confidence and stability.
