The U.S. Department of Defense has ordered the removal of Anthropic's Claude AI technology from its most sensitive military systems, citing concerns over supply chain risks. An internal memo, obtained by CBS News, details the AI's extensive use in areas such as nuclear command and control, ballistic missile defense, and high-risk cyber operations, with a six-month deadline for removal.

Anthropic, which declined to comment, has filed lawsuits against the federal government, alleging illegal retaliation over its designation as a supply chain risk. Despite a government-wide ban, sources indicate the Pentagon continues to use Claude AI in ongoing operations, raising questions about replacement plans and the timeline for full transition.
