In this age of urban living, frozen foods and rushed parents who have less and less time to cook are the norm. But these students are getting in touch with what it takes to get food from the farm to the table.

Students at Victor Schoelscher Middle School in Torcy, near Paris, are participating in the Vegetable Garden World Cup. The school’s garden club, which includes students aged 11 to 15, meets regularly throughout the year to tend to their garden. Their activities range from removing winter leaves to prevent cold damage to managing weeds and encouraging plant recovery.

Many students in the club have learned firsthand where vegetables like peas, carrots, and potatoes come from by growing, harvesting, and eating them. The club continues to develop gardening skills through both indoor and outdoor activities, adapting to seasonal weather. This is the fourth time the public school has entered the competition, which attracts participants from across France and other countries.

In a previous edition, Victor Schoelscher Middle School won the jury's choice award for a short video presentation. The students begin preparing for the competition well before the growing season, demonstrating teamwork and dedication. The school community anticipates the prize-giving at the end of the competition and aims to achieve first prize this year.
