Despite efforts by doctors to resuscitate him for over an hour, Struici did not survive. Three other workers were injured in the incident, one critically, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse, noting that the tower's stability had been verified prior to the restoration work.

After a grueling 12-hour operation, the firefighters are finally able to pull the construction worker from the building. A Romanian national named Octei Struici, he is, at this point, still alive. The rescuers say they spoke to him throughout the ordeal and had given him an oxygen mask. The worker we recovered was conscious and breathing. He was then taken in an ambulance for stabilisation. It left for the hospital. But any optimism was short-lived. Doctors said they tried to resuscitate the patient for more than one hour, but that they were unable to restart his heart. The victim was part of a team restoring this medieval tower in central Rome, when it suddenly collapsed on Tuesday morning. Three other workers were injured, one critically. Another managed to escape via a balcony. Firefighters rushed to the scene to try to free the trapped worker. But then this happened. A second collapse, endangering not just the man inside, but the emergency workers trying to save him. What followed was a complicated operation that stretched well into the night. The rescue teams flew a drone into the building to try to glean more information. And they used special equipment to suck out the rubble, but in the end to no avail. Authorities say the stability of the tower, which dates from the 13th century, had been verified before restoration work began several months ago. An investigation is already underway into the causes of the collapse.
