A Riverview woman has accused a Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy of using excessive force during a traffic stop that escalated into the arrest of her and her husband. The incident, which was captured on body camera and widely shared on social media, began as a speeding stop and resulted in charges including child abuse, misuse of 911, and interfering with an officer.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office maintains that the deputy acted lawfully and professionally, a view supported by a former judge who reviewed the footage. However, a judge later found no probable cause for the child abuse charge. The case remains active as civil rights organizations call for accountability.

Mhm. New at 11 on this saturday night, a Riverview woman is using her voice to call for accountability from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office today. She claims a deputy used excessive force on her from an incident that happened several weeks ago. A. B. C. Action is reporter Annette Gutierrez shows you the body camera video and spoke with an outside law and safety expert about this case. This is body camera footage that the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office shared with us from the July 25th incident in question. In it, you can see a traffic stop escalating from a speeding ticket of one person to arrests of two others. We hear from everyone involved in the matter, including a legal expert. I have a support proper policing, you know, following the law, following our constitutional rights. But this is not constitutional. Sandra Zickery and her husband held a press conference saturday afternoon with civil rights organizations calling for justice. Justice for Sandra. Now she shared this video from the July 25th incident that her brother took on Tiktok and it got tens of thousands of views. Do not step forward. Just chill. They claim they experienced verbal harassment, excessive use of force, false charges and violation of disability rights. Being in the hospital for 12 hours of hypertension, acute distress. Um and my baby having low fluids. Um it's very traumatizing. At the time, Sandra said she was 11 weeks pregnant and she's further along now. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office shared the body camera footage from that day. In the video, you can hear the deputy saying he pulled Sandra's brother over for speeding. Hey, how you doing? Get out of here. I'm doing well. Deputy. I'm with the sheriff's. I reached for us at 16 to 45 15 over. But when Sandra arrived, things got out of hand. Who are you? I don't care. Go leave. Okay, but I'm doing this. I'm gonna take you to jail if you don't get in your car and leave. Sandra tells us she was already on her way to meet him at the tire shop to drop off her car but began asking questions when she saw the cruise lights. You don't have a right to record. It's private and public property. The arrest report says the deputy told Sandra 11 times to leave the scene or she could face arrest. In the video, you can hear him reference the new halo law that creates a mandatory 25 ft buffer zone around law enforcement during active duty. There's a new law. It says 25 ft. If I tell you to leave, I was in 25 ft. Eventually, she and her husband were arrested. Sandra is facing charges of child abuse, misuse of a 911 call and for interfering with an officer while performing their duties. After reviewing the video, Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesperson says their deputy acted lawfully and professionally. Jeffrey Swartz is a former judge with over 45 years of working with the criminal justice system. He says he agrees with H. C. S. O. I think he was well within his rights at that point after he warned her several times. I didn't see anything abusive about it. The fact that she's pregnant does not immunize her from being arrested where there's probable cause to do so. I did not see any harassment. The misuse of the 911 charge came after Sandra called emergency services from the back of a police car following her arrest and the child abuse charge was filed because her eight year old son was in the car during the incident. But court records show a judge later found no probable cause for that charge. This case is still active and you can count on A. B. C. Action news for all the updates.
