Remember you're packing for at least 72 hours and the weather may be warm now but it can change quickly so grab a sweater and think sturdy footwear. You'll want more than flip-flops. Then there's the paperwork. You'll want a copy of all your personal documents. That's your ID or driver's license and birth certificate, passport, MCP card and for insurance you need to know your carrier, their phone number and your policy and account information. You'll want your banking information too and your emergency contacts. You should store paper documents in a waterproof bag. If you have kids, diapers, bottles, wipes, more food and water and something to bring them comfort like a favorite stuffed toy. If you have a pet, add more water and food, bowls, a leash and a kennel. Okay, have everything? Now it's time to get the house ready. Take photos of all the rooms in your house in case you need them for insurance. Remove debris from around your house and cut back branches and trees. If you get word that you do need to evacuate, close and lock your windows, turn off your air exchanger and your propane, unplug any electronic appliances and listen to any other instructions that local officials give you.
