A weather system forming over the central United States is expected to move eastward from Friday through Sunday, potentially causing travel delays for those heading out for the Easter weekend. Air travelers may experience disruptions at major airports from Fargo to Boston, while road travelers could face wintry conditions and heavy rain along key routes such as I-94, I-85, and I-95.

The western United States is expected to remain mostly clear of weather-related travel issues. Authorities advise travelers to monitor forecasts closely, drive cautiously in affected areas, and allow extra time for possible delays, especially when returning home at the end of the weekend.

If you're traveling for the holiday weekend, you are going to want to watch some of these areas for weather because we do have some trouble spots, so let's go ahead and jump right in. You can see we have this system taking shape on Friday across parts of the central US. It will continue to track eastward through Saturday and into Sunday, so if you're traveling, this could cause some issues for you. But if you're in the West, you're mostly in the clear in terms of weather-induced travel delays, which is really good news. So let's take a look at these airports specifically. So we're starting Friday at 5 p.m. You can see we already have this wintry mix up here at the top that could cause some issues for places like Fargo. As we step through the time frame, we're moving into the early hours of Saturday and into midday. You can see we could have delays anywhere from Dallas all the way up to Indianapolis. We're going to continue to step through the end of the day on Saturday and into Sunday. And you can see there could be some widespread delays from Houston up through Atlanta, Pittsburgh, even some major hubs like Boston. And as we step through the end of the weekend when you might be heading home, you do see that there could be some delays up that I-95 corridor, places like New York, Atlanta, and even down through Florida. But now we're going to look at the road map. So you're going to be dealing with the same system if you're traveling via car. And this is especially important. You're going to want to watch out for this wintry mix, especially in places like I-94, because winter weather driving can be tricky. You want to go slow, leave a lot of space. There's going to be heavy rain and storms Friday night. So you're going to want to pay attention to that as well, the severe threat in the plains. We're going to continue to step through into Sunday. You see that rain push east. You're going to want to be careful up I-85 and I-95 corridors through the end of the day. So as you're traveling home, stay safe and make sure to pay attention to your forecast.
