Washington Attorney General Nick Brown is suing the Trump administration over climate change. In that suit, it claims the White House is illegally withholding more than nine million dollars in funds to help protect Washington state from the impacts of climate change. Recently, the APA administrator announced the agency was looking to rescind that finding that greenhouse gases factor into climate change. If that happens, it could threaten federal grants that support community efforts to stop those effects. We know that we didn't use to have smoke season and now we do, although it's been nice this year, it's only a matter of time in the season is getting longer and longer. So yeah, this is gonna really make it hard for us as a nation to address the climate crisis. We here at the Climate Institute are doing everything we can to help our community adapt to extreme heat and wildfire smoke in particular. But my making this decision is going to make it harder to be able to have the resources to do that, which will endanger community members. That was Brian Henning Gonzaga's Climate Institute director. He says mitigation won't be able to keep up with the problem if emissions don't start to come down. Just imagine if we had a heat wave and then the power went out because the grid was too taxed or imagine that we have a heat wave and smoke and the grid goes down. We need places that could function off grid that could have clean air and cool spaces for our community. And by rescinding this endangerment, finding what we're going to, it's gonna make it harder to be able to find the resources to be able to address those problems. Noah announced two climate resilience focused funding opportunities for our state, but abruptly canceled them in May, saying the programs were inconsistent with President Trump's new priorities.
