U.S. Vice President Vance has joined American envoys in Israel to reinforce a tenuous ceasefire in Gaza, following renewed violence and accusations of truce violations by both sides. The ceasefire, part of a peace plan announced by President Trump, has seen over 40 breaches, with all reported fatalities being children.

The next phase of the plan involves the disarmament of Hamas and a further withdrawal of Israeli troops, with some troop movement already underway. The exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners has taken place, but the remains of deceased hostages have yet to be returned. Humanitarian aid remains limited, with the Rafah crossing still closed, and the United Nations describes the situation in Gaza as catastrophic.

This is what a fragile ceasefire looks and sounds like. Less than two weeks after Donald Trump's peace plan was announced, the bombs fell on Gaza again. They've been violating the truce since this morning. 40 breaches have been recorded since the ceasefire began. All those killed were children. Both sides accused each other of breaking the truce. Trump said the ceasefire was still in place. In a sign of the ceasefire's fragility, Trump's Middle East envoys are back in Israel. If the truce can hold, the next stage of the plan is the disarmament of Hamas and the further withdrawal of Israeli troops in Gaza. The first phase of that, to the so-called yellow line, is already happening. The Israeli military will eventually withdraw to what the White House calls a security buffer zone. Trump has staked a lot on his plan, and initially it worked. All living hostages are back in Israel, 20 in total. That was in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. The remains of all dead hostages are still to be returned, though. Gazans again fear for their safety, especially those living near the yellow line. It's enough. We've suffered for two years. We want to rest. We want peace of mind. We now sleep in fear, despite them saying there's a truce. There's nothing. Another sticking point in the deal is getting unrestricted aid into Gaza. While some supplies have started to come through, the vital Rafah crossing is still closed.
