Now big picture, industry leaders say that could have put a huge damper on their 28 billion dollar industry and also affect roughly 300,000 jobs. Small picture, it's gonna have a big impact on small businesses like the farmer and the chemist here in Midvale. Farmers to retailers, it's going to hurt because products are not going to be available. Steve Murdoch is operations manager for farmer and chemist. They've had this spot on Main Street in Midvale for six years now and he just renewed his lease. He says regular customers now rely on him as a non-pharmaceutical way to deal with multiple ailments. We specialize in products that help people with inflammation, pain, and sleep. They bring relief to thousands of people across the state of Utah. All hemp-based and non-addictive, most with very little to zero THC. Honestly my first reaction was this is such lazy legislation. First of all you want to go shop from the rooftops. Do you guys realize what you just lost? Wendy Mendenhall and Aspen Flores own the Utah Hemp and Cannabis Company in Salt Lake City. After eight years in the business, they say many folks, especially lawmakers, still don't understand that their customers come here to get help, not to get high. You need to really look at the research and you need to understand that all of the products that we sell, which the majority of them would be impacted if this actually went into effect the way that it's been written, all of our products are non-psychoactive. The Utah Department of Agriculture releasing this statement Friday, quote, we are closely monitoring the federal funding bill and any provisions that may affect hemp producers. It's too early to determine any full impact but we are staying in communication with our federal partners and will share updates with stakeholders as more information becomes available. We say field the formulation. We control the process so that we know where the product is coming from and how it's formulated so that we can have a safe product.
