US labor productivity accelerated in the third quarter to its strongest pace in two years. Productivity soared to an annualized rate of 4.9%. Economic growth in the quarter also powered ahead. The US trade gap narrowed in October and jobless claims rose by 8,000 to 208,000 in the week ending January 3.
