The draft resolution has not been adopted owing to the negative vote of a permanent member of the Security Council. The US and Russia presented rival resolutions to the Security Council during two meetings. Now the US vetoed the Russian drafts because they wanted a humanitarian pause to allow aid into Gaza but not a ceasefire, which is language that was in two of the Russian proposals. The US thinks that it is necessary to buy Israel time to destroy as much of Hamas' leadership and networks as is possible and it doesn't want the UN to get in the way of that mission. The UN is struggling to put a bandaid on a humanitarian crisis in Gaza hemorrhaging out of control. The team is working against all odds and risks to their security, to deliver life-saving medical supplies to the hospital. The WHO supplies that came into the Via Rafa have been immediately distributed to seven hospitals all over Gaza. Fortunately, these essentially needed supplies are merely a drop in the ocean of needs. Israel's relentless bombings to wipe out alleged Hamas targets have spared few civilian lives and even if the Security Council passes a ceasefire resolution, the question is, would anyone in Israel be listening?
