The array consists of three 100 kilowatt turbines, each capable of powering approximately 60 homes. Future developments are underway, including a planned four megawatt system in the Orkney Islands, which aims to produce five times the power of the current array.

Despite its promise, tidal energy technology is not without its challenges. The primary hurdle is reducing costs to make the technology financially competitive. However, the UK remains committed to expanding its tidal energy capacity, with plans to install 130 megawatts of tidal stream power by 2029, contributing to its net zero carbon ambitions.
