From parts of downed planes and bullet-riddled helmets to uniform patches, a volunteer group in Kyiv is selling Russian items found on the battlefields to raise money for the war effort and buy drones for Ukraine.

In central Kyiv, a unique collection of items is being sold to fund Ukraine's war effort. Volunteer Petro Shambarovsky and his team have turned battlefield remnants, such as parts of downed planes, bullet-riddled helmets, and uniform patches, into merchandise. Most of these items were collected during offensive campaigns and Russian retreats.

Shambarovsky, who makes risky trips to the front line to deliver supplies, funds his efforts through these sales. The group has raised tens of thousands of dollars, often selling items to international collectors. However, Shambarovsky notes that the demand for such war memorabilia has decreased over time.

One of the notable items available is a model train made of salt from the city of Solidar, reflecting the area’s extensive salt mines. Despite the declining interest, the organization remains hopeful and plans to celebrate their eventual victory with a tequila party if they can't sell the more valuable items.



Ukrainians sell war trophies to fund the front line

In central Kyiv, in a shop selling outdoor gear, there's another type of merchandise for sale. The remnants of Russian weapons and a flag doubling as a doormat. These battlefield trophies are being sold to raise money for the front. 90 percent were got from during our offensive campaigns and when Russians were retreating. Petro Shambarovsky received many of these items from troops. He makes risky trips to the front line to drop off supplies like drones. Purchased with the money earned from selling war memorabilia. Like this battered street sign from Bakhmut or name patches. But patches are still demanded but it's very difficult to get it. The one of the main reasons now we are not, we are defending, we are not attacking. Shambarovsky who volunteers estimates that they've raised tens of thousands of dollars including by selling to international collectors. So if you're looking for an authentic piece of history, you're a collector. This former UK paratrooper acts as a middleman. He has sent gear including these Russian helmets to try and sell. It's got a bullet hole through the front there. The team in Kyiv tries to get creative. It's a case from 155 millimeters shell. They etched a picture of the strategically important Kerch bridge on the shell casing. But Shambarovsky says the appetite for war trophies has waned. Most of the society here in Ukraine and in the West are exhausted and tired. Here we have more precious items. Ukrainian soldiers took this train model as Russian troops moved into the city of Solidar. It's made of salt, a nod to the area's extensive salt mines. You can take it, it's very heavy. They won at least $10,000 for it. If there are no buyers, they have other plans. And if we will not sell it, after victory we will make a tequila party.
