Uganda's Electoral Commission has announced that the country's next general election will take place on the 15th of January. President Yoweri Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986 and is now 81 years old, will seek re-election. Museveni's government has previously amended the constitution to remove age and term limits, allowing him to remain in office.

Museveni's main challenger is expected to be Robert Kiyagulanye, known as Bobby Wynne, a former pop star who has mobilised significant support among young voters. Wynne previously contested the 2021 election and has accused Museveni of electoral fraud, including ballot stuffing and voter intimidation. The election is set against a backdrop of both praise for Museveni's economic and health achievements and criticism over alleged human rights abuses and corruption.
