The Archuleta County Sheriff's Office alleges the men started the fire despite county-wide fire restrictions. The blaze burned approximately 75 acres before being brought under control by emergency crews.

Meanwhile, containment efforts on other wildfires in the region have advanced, with the leaf fire now 60% contained and the elk fire fully contained. Some evacuation zones have been downgraded, and the South Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park has reopened to the public. Insurance experts note that while Colorado faces high catastrophe risks from wildfires and hail, a single fire is unlikely to immediately impact home insurance rates, though residents are advised to review their coverage and keep inventories of important belongings.

New this morning, two men are now facing charges accused of starting the Oak Fire and Aspen Strengths. Excuse me. This fire was back on August 10th. The Archuleta County Sheriff's Office says they started a fire even though the county was under fire restrictions. That fire spread and burned about 75 acres before crews got it under control. And on the Western Slope, crews made major progress on the leaf fire over the weekend, as it's now 60% contained on Friday. It was only 12% and the nearby elk fire is now 100% contained. The Rio Blanco County Sheriff's Office has downgraded some of the evacuation zones in the area. And Highway 13 is now back open. Some of the crews who have been working on this fire will now get to go home a much needed rest for sure and a new crew will take over command starting this morning and today the South Rim of the Black Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park will reopen to the public. It's been closed because of a wildfire that sparked more than a month ago. Back on July 10th, that fire is now 52% contained and we don't know how home insurance costs will be impacted in the future. So far, the leaf fire has destroyed at least five homes. Our scripts new station in Colorado Springs spoke to Carol Walker. She is the executive director for the Rocky Mountain Insurance Association. She told them that Colorado is considered a high catastrophe state. That's because of hail and wildfires, but we likely will not see insurance rates jump for awhile. One large fire, especially we don't have any significant property loss yet, won't have a direct impact on what you pay for homeowners insurance. However, it reflects the risk in our state. Nearly half of our population in Colorado lives in what's considered high risk areas were seeing that play out in real time. Walker says to take a close look at what your insurance actually covers, what your deductible is for things like wind and hail. It's also important to keep an inventory of important items to store outside of your home and keep that list online or at a family member's home.
